Pre-Fellowship Support
Our Pre-Fellowship Scheme is designed to support early career researchers (ECRs) in crafting high-quality applications for fellowships of up to £85,000. Recognizing that ECRs will particularly benefit from this initiative, we are launching a 12-18 month program aimed at equipping high-potential candidates with the necessary research time and resources to enhance their application quality.
Key Components:
Comprehensive Support for Pre-Fellowship Candidates
We will assist a cohort of nine candidates (seven local and two regional) by providing them access to our world-class research facilities at MLW. This supportive environment will enable them to focus on their preliminary work, significantly boosting their application prospects.
Flexible Seed Grants
To address specific needs during the application process, we will offer competitive seed grants of up to £10,000. These grants are tailored to support activities such as preliminary data collection, travel for team-building, skill acquisition, and training in innovative methodologies. The seed grants will be managed similarly to our current flexible training awards, ensuring they are candidate-focused and adaptable to individual requirements. We aim to fund 12 seed grants (nine local and three regional) in the pilot phase, with awardees encouraged to participate in our online networking events and provide feedback to foster continuous improvement.
Accessible Knowledge and Networking Events
We will host quarterly online networking and information events aimed at inspiring potential applicants to pursue fellowship opportunities. These informal sessions will feature insights from successful applicants, contributions from funders, and discussions led by the College of Experts, who are accomplished scientists with relevant experience. The events will be designed to foster a sense of community and collaboration among participants. All sessions will be recorded and made available on our dedicated webpage, with links shared widely through social media to maximize accessibility.
